The director of the documentary “That Day” spoke about how the idea for making this work was formed, and the suitability of such a festival for directors and producers to work in the field of resistance and anti-arrogance.

In an interview with the International Resistance Film Festival news site, Majid Yousefi stated about the process of producing the documentary “That Day” and his motivation for making this work: The documentary “That Day” deals with the historic trip of the martyred General Hajj Qasem Soleimani to Hamedan in August 2018, whose speech “We are the nation of martyrdom, we are the nation of Imam Hussein” became famous and received widespread media coverage.

Regarding the role of such a festival in promoting the culture of resistance, the director said: Discovering new filmmaking talents in areas of value, including the culture of resistance, self-confidence, anti-arrogance, and also supporting this type of work, is one of the most important aspects of the Resistance Film Festival, and it has filled the big gap in the absence of such an event that is felt in other festivals.

Yousefi, while emphasizing the impact of cinema on culture and art, added: Cinema is one of the most important influential elements in the narrative of resistance culture in the field of art, because this industry, along with other media tools and applications, can be connected in a chain and convey the message of resistance and anti-arrogance to the world, but unfortunately, cinema today has appeared very weak in the field of resistance and does not have this impact even within the country.

Referring to the blade of censorship and distortion in Western media, and the effective role of independent cinema, the director said: There is no doubt that Western media is managing the minds of the people of the world with the blade of censorship, distortion and inversion of the realities of the resistance and anti-arrogance front in different countries of the world. In this complex situation, independent cinema must play an effective role with various media techniques to attract the audience, spread the culture of resistance and anti-arrogance, and introduce the heroes of the resistance front.

Regarding the impact of these issues on public attitudes, Yousefi said: Resistance cinema can play an effective role in changing public attitudes in cooperation with governmental and governmental organizations and institutions, led by the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation, and also by interacting with various festivals. If it shouldered this responsibility alone, it would not achieve much success.

Referring to the production of works with diverse historical themes and his expectations from the Resistance Festival, he said: Resistance cinema should seek to produce films about specific events, important historical periods such as the Reza Khani era and the unveiling of the veil, the revolutionary era, the sacred defense and the defenders of the shrine, etc., which if the films are made with quality, will definitely have a large audience and will have an impact on the audience.

Yousefi stated that in order to strengthen the values of resistance cinema, in-depth research and study of various historical events is necessary to create a good and lasting work of art. He added: “Decades after the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the Sacred Defense, no films have been made about many prominent martyrs and commanders or important historical operations and events, and these gaps have caused a part of society to distance itself from Islamic and social values.”
