The 10th Resistance Film Festival was held after a three-year gap from the 9th. While the festival was traditionally held every two years, it apparently became a triennial event in the 10th season, and was held with a one-year delay, in December 2005. The 10th season of the Resistance Film Festival also saw a change in the “director”; Mohammad Reza Sharafeddin, who was known as a producer and special effects director in cinema, was the director of this event. Apparently, the change in the director did not give the 10th Resistance Film Festival any special prominence compared to its previous edition.

۱۴ works from Iranian cinema were screened during this period, with films such as “The Madman Has Escaped the Cage,” “Gilaneh,” and “Duel” being among the most famous and enduring. Also, works such as “Naghmeh,” “Ishk Sarma,” or “Khodahafez Rafiq” by Abolghasem Talebi, Azizollah Hamidnejad, and Behzad Behzadpour also had a fresh look at war cinema in terms of form and content.

From this period, it is easy to feel that filmmakers are looking for new narratives of the war and in this way they have also taken up surreal cinema in order to create a new look in such films. Goodbye, Friend, plays with the theme of romantic nostalgia for the martyrs of the Sacred Defense, and Naghmeh wants to portray the romantic life of a chemical warfare veteran; Tears of Cold depicts love and enmity amidst the cold of the mountains, as if in these years filmmakers were looking for a connection between love and defense.

On the other hand, some filmmakers paid attention to the legacy of the war and its mementos, from the lost gold of a duel to the pain of Gilan. There was a lot of criticism at the time that some of these films were anti-war, but history has proven that every film made on this subject has something to say and defend the 8 years of sacred defense, defending the resistance that the Iranian people had during the 8 years, and this defense had different expressive and visual angles, with each filmmaker presenting an angle of this war according to their taste.

It goes without saying that the international section is still empty in this festival, a section that opened its place in two stages but could not or was not allowed to continue its life.
